Online manufacturing

Have you ever wanted to produce something which would require a manufacturer. I know I have.  In this post I will be reviewing a site called Ponoko.  They specialize in automated production of designs which are provided by creative users.

I was skeptical at first when I saw this site on wired.com but once I dug a little bit deeper I was surprised and impressed. From the beginning to the end of the process it is dead simple. Ok .. not really but its pretty easy considering you are working with [Dr. Evil Voice]LASER’S[/Dr. Evil Voice].  You have the choice to either work with Adobe Illustrator CS®, Macromedia Freehand MX®, Inkscape or CorelDraw X3®.  You can also simply draw a picture on a piece of paper scan it and then upload it.  I have tried this feature but not with as much success as just making an image with Illustrator.

They have a ton of tutorials and there forums are extremely helpful.  If you are interested in creating something out of a physical materials like:

Then this might be the site for you.  I checked out the forums.  They were a ton of help and are loaded with a lot of enthusiasts that would love to help out newbies.
